Footnote Five: The Sample Size Nobody Footnoted
¹ The record mentions a social media video featuring five men displeased with congestion pricing. Our research desk admires the sample size, since our own 'channel checks' rest on four friends and a cousin. ² The cousin has since been promoted to 'industry source'. ³ Compliance requests that footnote one stay, and that nobody ask who the fifth man was.

Cameras Arrived Before the Seed Round Ever Did
The founder believes a camera crew follows only a Series A, so he is rattled that someone once appeared on the television show The Real World: Boston with no cap table, no deck and no mission statement. His hacker house has eleven roommates, an oat-milk subscription and no crew. He checks his doorbell camera, the only crew he has ever had.

Partners Mistake a General Election for Their Own
The partners read the line literally and gasp: someone defeated Julie Lassa in the general election, which in fund language means the general partners voted and the limited partners heard later by PDF. 'Was there a quorum?' asks the youngest associate. Nobody answers, because the fund's last quorum was a group text with one thumbs-up.

Memo: Civility Standard Proposed for Trustee Video Calls
MEMORANDUM. Item 1: Note a campaign urging civility, including eschewing wearing pajamas on airplanes. Item 2: Acknowledge that three trustees dial into quarterly reviews from bed, one with a cat on the quorum. Item 3: Adopt a dress standard for fiduciary calls. Item 4: Retain the consultant to measure sleepwear exposure, billed by thread count.

Our Permit Queue Measured in Lumberjack-Afternoons
We now measure delay in lumberjack-afternoons, defined as the time a champion would need to clear a forty-acre parcel. Because Duffy was a professional lumberjack, we assume one afternoon is generous. The zoning board has held our campus for thirty-one months, roughly 190 units per transformer. The interconnection queue stands at 190 lumberjack-afternoons, and the forest regrew first.

Second Assignment Lowers Score on First, As Usual
Evaluation note. The subject was confirmed as Secretary of Transportation on January 28, 2025, then named acting administrator of NASA on July 9: a concurrent two-agency load with no published ablation. In our own models, a second assignment lowers performance on the first by four points, which we label 'context'. Recommendation: stop calling our regression 'emergent specialization'.

Form 14: Lunar Reactor Lacks Neighborhood Committee
FORM 14, Site Approval. Field 6: 'a directive to construct a nuclear reactor on the Moon.' The clerk demands a signature from the local neighborhood committee. None exists there, so one is convened with the reactor as sole member. Minutes record the reactor's first absence, and a criticism session is scheduled to which the reactor, being fixed, cannot travel.

Foreman Applauds Speed; Steward Reaches for Placard
At the pre-shift huddle the foreman reads the bio aloud, pausing on speed climbing titles. The crew claps. Dolores, the steward, does not. 'On this site that's a write-up,' she says, tapping the three-points-of-contact placard. The foreman asks if she'd prefer a trophy for the harness inspection. 'I'd prefer the inspection,' she says, 'and a harness that passes it.'

Instructions for Describing a Departure With a Verb
Step 1: Read how a biography puts it: after Congress, someone worked for the lobbying firm BGR Group, a sentence with a subject, a verb and a named employer. Step 2: Compare your layoff email, which offers 'a transition' with no employer, no verb and a subject called 'the organization'. Step 3: Request a destination. Step 4: Receive a link to a resilience course.

One Listener Saved a Station; Mine Gets Sunset
If a vote against defunding NPR can be explained by citing his constituent's use of public radio, why is my twenty-two-year reporting tool retired by 'usage analytics' when its one daily user is the finance director? Who counts as enough of a constituent for software? And when the tool goes dark, will anyone remember that its only user also knew how to fix it?

Both Broadcasts Reach a Bottom Line; Mine Is Silent
Compare broadcasts. In 2023 Duffy began to co-host The Bottom Line on Fox Business: a desk, a second chair, someone to disagree with. My skills-based assessment is also a broadcast, filmed in a spare bedroom, with ninety seconds, one prompt and a parser for an audience. Both programs reach a bottom line; only one of us is paid to hear it.
