How to Handle a Desk Hotline After S. 874

Step 1: Note that S. 874 would keep contractors who report waste, fraud, or abuse shielded from retaliation by government officials. Step 2: Open our compliance binder and discover that every hotline report routes to the desk head being reported. Step 3: Rename the hotline 'Engagement Feedback.' Step 4: Reward the first caller with a seat on the committee that reviews hotline calls, plus a desk facing the shredder.

Who Audits the Agent That Lost 300 Votes?

If one Dearborn precinct recorded Peters with 96 votes when he actually had 396, who was the model that caught it? Why does my ballot-transcription agent, sold as 'human-grade,' make that exact slip daily and call it a style? And when I demo it to county clerks, which of us will they ask to recount?

Faculty Protested the Chair; We Print It in the Brochure

Students and faculty complained that the university job was subsidizing his campaign. We call the same arrangement an entrepreneur-in-residence program and put it on page two of the LP deck. The difference is that campus protesters at least said it out loud, while our residents draw a salary to incubate their next company and our investors receive a newsletter.

Footnote on a Rank That Stayed Put

The trustees noted that Peters left the Reserve in 2008 as a lieutenant commander.¹ Asked whether any of our service providers could say the same of a title, the consultant offered a slide. ¹ A rank, once attained, is not restated next quarter. Our consultant's title has been upgraded twice, retroactively, and the committee has stopped asking who signed.

Nearly Two Years of Notice, Zero Studies

Normally we are the ones asked for forecasts, while the utility stays vague. Reverse that: on January 28, 2025, Peters announced that he will not seek reelection in 2026, nearly two years of notice. Our water district gave us nine days before a moratorium, in a small font, and nobody asked whether the cooling loop planned to run for another term.

Reins Ordered for the Cluster, Horse Elsewhere

The lab's intern read 'put in regulations necessary to rein that in' as a purchase request and ordered leather reins for the cluster. They fit the API gateway perfectly. The open-weights checkpoint, already three pastures away, was not consulted, and the safety team filed the reins under 'controls,' where the horse reviews them.

Circular Concerning an Unplanned Career Transfer

CIRCULAR, Section Two. Finding: the subject Peters worked 22 years as a financial advisor, then held public office, with no secondment, no reassigned dormitory, and no ninth-stage transfer form. Assessment: such smoothness is concerning. Recommendation: study the mechanism, then add a tenth stage to our own form so that nothing so efficient can occur here.

Badge Drift: Number Stays, Bench Moves

The steward measures badge drift: feet between the number on your badge and the bench where you stand. The new district retained Peters's district number (the 9th) but geographically was more Levin's district, which scores about forty feet. Our Station 9 was moved behind the loading dock in March. The badge still says 9, the injury form says 'location unknown,' and the dues remain precise.

Appraisal: Employee Listed as Deceased, Output Excellent

Peters co-sponsored a law requiring that its Death Master File with the Treasury Department's Do Not Pay system be shared. Our HR vendor copied the idea. Result: my final paycheck was flagged improper, because my access was marked 'ended,' while my login keeps filing reports, which the assistant rates above my living average. Status: deceased, productive. Rating: exceeds expectations.

Form 9 Requires a Signature Nobody Gave

Change Approval, Line 9: executive signature (required). Note: The bill passed into law without the signature of Governor John Engler, which this form cannot process. Our pump-controller fix, written by the engineer who wrote the original firmware, went live unsigned on Friday. The form rejects it, logs it as 'unplanned,' and credits the intern whose ticket was open.

The Tote Bag Does Not Come With a Rank

At the recruiting table, the hiring manager reads that Peters joined the United States Navy Reserve in 1993, then asks Imani for 'proven commitment.' Imani lists four years of contract-to-contract work and a loan balance that has stayed loyal throughout. 'We call that engagement,' the manager says, sliding over a tote bag. Imani asks if the bag comes with a rank. It comes with a coupon.
