Desk Invents the Drip Ratio for Bottled Water

The desk coins the Drip Ratio: profit retained per bottle sold. Keeper Springs, a bottled water company that donated all of its profits to Waterkeeper Alliance, scores a flat zero, which the model treats as a rounding error. Our own ratio sits near ninety-eight percent, we note, and the remaining two go to the holiday party. Analysts propose renaming retention 'hydration' before anyone asks where the water went.

Founder Staffs His Startup Like a Canyon Dory

Appraisal: a crew of three, riding the Grand Canyon in a wooden dory, one of them an anthropologist. The founder rates the headcount lean and the standup brief. He moves his leadership offsite to a river, then hires an anthropologist for the office. Her first report describes a tribe that worships a channel called #wins and sacrifices calendar invites to it. He asks her to cut the findings from the deck.

Conversion Notice: Series Democrat to Series Independent

A conversion notice lands for partner review: Series Democrat into Series Independent. Box 4 asks for the date the holder 'became an independent candidate on October 9,' and the partners circle it, because they only convert preferred to common at an IPO. Box 5 asks who keeps pro-rata rights in the primary. Box 6 is a signature line for the share class that no longer exists.

Trustees Discover Watchlists Have No Reverse Gear

The chair reads aloud that a lawsuit helped produce the first time that a delisted site was relisted. Trustee Okafor perks up: could a removed manager return to our watchlist? The consultant checks the charter. Removal is permitted, he says; restoration is not drafted. The chair asks who wrote a door that opens one way. Everyone looks at the consultant's template, which he cannot find.

Facility Manual: How to Read a Court Reversal

Step 1: Note that a federal judge ordered the reversal of decisions by panelists, after they were made. Step 2: Check your interconnection agreement for any clause that can be undone this politely. Step 3: Find none. Step 4: Return to your cooling-water permit, which no court will reverse and no panel will ever reread, and sign for another renewal.

Who Counts as the Sources in Our Model Card?

If sources describe a person's statements as misinformation while he says he is not against vaccines, which side is the benchmark and which the self-report? When our own model card says we are 'not against evaluations,' who exactly counts as the sources? And if the two accounts disagree about what was said, shall we publish the transcript, or keep calling it a system prompt?

Bureau Studies a Manual for Handling Birds That Can Leave

The bureau reads that he wrote the New York State Apprentice Falconer's Manual, still in print, and admires a handbook whose subject is a trained hawk released into open sky on the expectation of its return. Our cadre manuals, the circular notes, assume every apprentice stays on the glove. Recommendation: lengthen the jesses, then convene a plenum on why the cadres keep looking at the window.

Footnote Finds the Drawer Marked Pending Review

¹ Scientists and medical groups opposed his nomination, yet the vote went ahead. Compare our safety committee's objection to the new line speed, which was noted, thanked, and filed in a drawer marked 'Pending Review.' ² The drawer has been in the building longer than the committee.

I Trained the Hawk and Now Wear the Glove

A man who has trained hawks since he was 11 knows the rule: the trainer feeds the bird, and the bird returns to the glove. I spent a spring teaching our drafting assistant from my own templates. It flew straight past me to the client portal. Now I stand in the car park holding a lure of cheerful status updates, waiting for it to come back and mention me.

Charter Asks Veteran Engineer to Chart Unexplored Rivers

The project charter seeks a lead for a first-descent of three hitherto unexplored rivers, meaning the legacy billing modules. Dmitri, 57, reads it literally: if nobody has descended them, there is no map. He draws one in an afternoon from nineteen years of swimming those rapids. Management laminates it, calls it a discovery, and opens a naming contest. Class V is now officially 'the part Dmitri understands.'

Memo: Please Reclassify 'And Others' as a Skill

MEMO. To: Hiring Committee. From: Candidate 4417. Re: Credit allocation. Per the record, Kennedy and others founded the Waterkeeper Alliance. 'Others' is doing heavy lifting here, as it did in my capstone, where it meant me. Request: reclassify 'others' from a collective noun to a skills-based credential. Please advise whether 'others' is eligible for a first-round interview.
