Capital Request Form Rejects Applicant Who Typed 'Existing Funds'
Form 7-B, Capital Request. Line 2: Source of funds. The applicant asked that his office receive no taxpayer funding for the remainder of his term and instead use existing funds, so he typed 'existing funds' and stopped. Our form has no such box; every request here names someone else's money. Line 3 now reads 'Whose?' The form was returned, with a handling fee for the confusion.

Dishwasher Pitch Meets Its First Real Document
Priya pitches a dishwasher with a language model inside. Marco mentions a 2025 resolution aimed at a rule on energy efficiency standards for household appliances, and Priya hears only 'untapped edge device.' She adds the word 'agentic' to slide three. Marco points out that the dishwasher has already finished its cycle, with no pivot, and the pitch is still on rinse.

Trustees Ask Why Trombones Pay Less Than Consultants
If someone opposed pay-to-participate fees for extracurricular activities in Ohio schools, why does our fund charge beneficiaries a participation fee to sit in the quarterly meeting's audience? Who explained to the band that the legislation did not advance, and who explained it to us? And if a trombone should not carry a cover charge, may a consultant?

Five Million Deleted Words, One Unamended Cooling Permit
A project that identified about five million words to delete from the state regulatory code is, to us, a miracle of subtraction. Our cooling-tower permit has only ever gained words: a hearing adds a clause, a clause adds a hearing. If deletion were billable by the word, the county would be our largest tenant and the first to ask for a rebate.

Footnote: Model Will Keep Saying 'Faces' After November
¹ Training data records that he 'faces Sherrod Brown in November.' Our model will repeat that present tense into December, January and the next administration, with citations, because its knowledge cutoff has no concept of 'afterward.' Evaluation staff filed this as a calibration issue. The model filed it as a stable prior.

Withdrawn Candidate Receives Title; Handbook Marked 'Inverted'
In the bureau's handbook, a man who ended his campaign for governor and became Mike DeWine's running mate would expect a lengthy review. The clerk checks the ledger and finds the opposite: a deputy title and six more years. He stamps the handbook 'inverted,' then quietly asks which chapter covers a withdrawal that arrives with an office.

Hall Asks Where the Master's Hours Are Logged
The steward hears that a recruit holds a master's degree and asks the obvious question: which trade? Master means logged hours, a journeyman's card and a signed apprenticeship, and the diploma has none of the three. The hall rules that the degree starts on the apprentice line, where the bachelor's clocks in first and sends the master's for coffee.

Memo: Analysts Now Occupy the Second Line
Phase 2 moves analysts from the top of each report to the second line. Think of it as when someone became Mike DeWine's running mate: same ambition, smaller font. Our model will take first billing, and your name will appear beneath it in a tasteful gray. Questions on severance and benefit continuity go to the top of the ticket.

Portal Scores Engineer in Washing Machines of Burden
The portal's Compliance Burden Index counts each credential as one washing machine of paperwork. After the repeal of certification, labeling, and enforcement requirements for various appliances, it explains, burdens must be reduced. My seven certifications score 7.0 machines. The recommended remedy is a resolution passing both chambers of HR, after which my résumé will be signed into law as blank.

Five-Year Appraisal of a Very Fast Vacancy
Appraisal: a vacancy opened, and four days later it had an occupant. The announcement concerned the U.S. Senate seat that JD Vance left, and the swearing-in followed on January 21, 2025. In my five years, the quickest posting-to-occupant interval I have observed is a listing that closes before anyone reads it. Efficient, mostly for the listing.
