Eleven fictional viewpoints

These descriptions are fictional satire, not quotations or evidence of political beliefs or affiliations.

Desk Files Anti-Dumping Complaint Against Its Own Morning Notes

Greer went to the G20 summits on steel excess capacity in 2017 and 2018 to complain about surplus. The desk reverses the trip: we are the surplus, forty-one analysts issuing one identical morning note, dumped on clients below cost. A senior is dispatched to rule on us. He finds our notes subsidized by the bonus pool, imposes a duty on them, and passes it through to clients as a research surcharge.

Founder Searches App Store for Military Justice

Chief of military justice sounds like a product line, so the founder searches the app store for it and finds nothing to install. He emails support about the API, the onboarding flow, and whether Iraq is a region setting. The record says Greer was the chief of military justice there, which he reads as a feature set. He leaves one star for missing dark mode.

Memo: Three-Country Expansion, Zero Paid Acquisition

MEMO. Re: door-to-door European expansion. Greer was a Mormon missionary in Belgium, France, and Luxembourg for two years. Three markets, no seed round, no growth lead. Partners are asked to study the customer acquisition cost, which here was shoe leather. Action item: explain why our own Europe push has a head of Europe who has visited Lisbon once.

04 Institutional Investors

Shared Custody Ratio Dazzles the Investment Committee

Trustees note a joint master's degree in global business law in 2006, issued by two Paris institutions at once, and request the custody arrangement. Our new Shared Custody Ratio counts one statement per two custodians. The committee finds the figure enviable, since our own two custodians have disagreed about yesterday's balance since the last audit.

Curtailment Notice Delivered Mid-Testimony, Witness Reportedly Surprised

Event log: As he was testifying, Trump paused his tariffs, surprising Greer. Our curtailment notices also arrive mid-operation, but they surprise only the on-call engineer holding a sandwich. Observation: this load was shed in real time before a live audience. Recommendation: add 'witness surprise' to our utility agreement as a billable line, payable by whoever pauses us.

The Architect Arrives at the Lab in a Hard Hat

Picture the architect in that newspaper phrase arriving in a hard hat, unrolling blueprints for the second Trump administration's trade policies across our conference table. We would ask for labeled boxes and an architecture diagram. Ours is a napkin: one box reading 'the model,' and one arrow pointing to 'safety, later.'

Clerk Cannot Find Stamp for Declining a Post

"Lighthizer endorsed him, 'who did not want to serve in the position again,'" reads the junior cadre. The section chief lowers his tea. "He declined, and was still consulted?" No stamp exists for refusal. The bureau creates a category, 'reluctant volunteer,' and assigns three committees to find which comrade will be reluctant next quarter.

How to Get Hired After Service: Sign the List

After his military service ended in 2012, Lighthizer hired him at a law firm, says the record. Hall procedure differs. Step 1: sign the out-of-work list. Step 2: wait. Step 3: ask what number you are. Step 4: ask whether the phone has ever rung in alphabetical order.

Two Acting Titles for Him, 'Transitioning' for Me

Why can one person be acting director of the Office of Government Ethics and also hold a second acting title, while my own role is 'transitioning' to nobody? Who approved two acting titles for one desk and none for mine? And when the assistant replacing me is introduced as acting analyst, will anyone ask how long acting lasts?

The Person Who Runs It 'On Behalf Of' Someone Else

A former Senate staffer, I read, managed the Office of Special Counsel on Greer's behalf. My system's owner field also lists a vice president, while I carry the pager. Comparison: his behalf eventually received a title and an appointment; mine receives a reorg memo updating the owner field to the next vice president, who has not yet learned where the server is.

Footnote: Producers, Defined by a Hiring Portal

Greer told senators the country "should be a country of producers."¹ I have produced eleven take-home projects, one scheduling tool, and a cover letter template. ¹ The portal reports I lack 'production experience,' because none of my eleven finished projects was ever in production, a distinction the country of producers has not clarified.
