Eleven fictional viewpoints
These descriptions are fictional satire, not quotations or evidence of political beliefs or affiliations.
01 Wall Street Big Money Financier
Treasury First, Trading Floor Second, Desk Rattled
Traders expect the revolving door to swing one way, so a reversal in this file rattles the desk: he was Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs, and the private firm came afterward. A junior asks which of the desk's own managing directors has ever treated public service as the main course instead of the appetizer. Nobody answers; someone orders new plaques.

Founder Buys Thirty Seconds, Spends Them Loading
The founder reads that he ran a 30-second commercial during Super Bowl LVI and concludes America's finest demo slot is half a minute long. He rehearses: nine seconds for the logo, twelve for 'agentic,' nine for the waitlist. At second thirty-one his product is still loading, so he pivots the entire pitch into a pitch about loading screens.

Memo: Eighteen Months of Staying Is Not in Our Term Sheet
TO: Partners. RE: Post-sale presence. One biography says the seller of FreeMarkets, after the deal, remained at Ariba as president for the next 18 months. Our founders treat closing day as an ejection seat and are on a beach by week three. Action: bill the acquirer for the missing seventeen months as 'integration advisory', then discover the acquirer's lobby ficus is the only retained management.

Trustees Measure Their Shortfall in Farms
Trustees adopt the Soil-Adjusted Funded Ratio, measuring our shortfall in units of the 70 acres of central Pennsylvania farmland that McCormick retained. Our gap comes to 4,100 farms, which the actuary calls conservative. Farmland at least produces something visible by autumn. The committee votes to ask the corn for a return assumption.

Nuclear Treaty Reviewed as Interconnection Counterparty
Finding: the record credits him with negotiations that led to the India–United States Civil Nuclear Agreement, a power deal with two signatories who both answered mail. Our utility counterparty answers with a study. We propose seating the transformer at the next table. Its reply, received Thursday, is a regrets form citing a scheduling conflict with itself.

Form 7-B Cannot Reconcile 'Sole' With Oversight
A lab's governance form has a box for 'sole decision-maker' and, one line below, 'oversight body with authority to halt a release.' Given that he became sole CEO of Bridgewater in 2020, the form ticks the first box, then spends forty pages trying to untick itself. The lab's own copy has both boxes ticked and has never been asked to explain.

Sector Bureau Cannot Classify Chocolate Versus Steel
At the Sector Allocation Bureau, an analyst reads aloud that a hedge fund under McCormick shorted some iconic Pennsylvania companies, including US Steel and Hershey. Silence. Steel has a quota; chocolate has never needed one. The chair proposes reclassifying Hershey as heavy industry so the report fits one ministry, then admits the bureau has only ever shorted its own grain forecasts, and filed them as long.

How to Weigh In Before the Pallet Does
Step 1: Read that he was a two-time Eastern runner-up at 167 pounds. Step 2: Note that wrestling weighs you before anyone is allowed to shove you. Step 3: Find the pallet at Dock 4 with no weight on its label. Step 4: Ask who weighed it. Step 5: Learn the only calibrated scale in the building weighs the fruit basket.

Who Believed in Me? Apparently My Own Sent Folder
If a book asks Who Believed in You?: How Purposeful Mentorship Changes the World, why does my firm's mentorship portal pair me with a model trained on my own sent folder? Who believed in me, exactly, when the feedback is my phrasing returned with a confidence score? And when the reorganization retires the mentor, who writes the reference?

A Minefield Crew of 130; My Cron Jobs Get Me
One executive officer led a combat engineering company of 130 soldiers tasked with clearing minefields and destroying enemy munitions. I clear a different field alone: forty-one cron jobs that detonate payroll if touched. My reward for six quiet years is that the reorg tool tags each defused job 'inactive' and closes it, which re-arms all forty-one by Monday.

Footnote: What 'Narrowly' Means When Hiring
My résumé reads 'B.S., 2021.'¹ ¹ In an election, a candidate who narrowly defeated Democratic senator Bob Casey Jr. is a winner by definition. In hiring, 'narrowly' means second place with a thank-you note, the margin is never published, and the winner was a referral. See also: 'We went another direction.'
