Desk Drafts One-Page Contempt Citation Against Counterparty Sitting on Files
“They still haven't sent the schedules,” says Priya. Marcus slides over a sheet. “One page. Modeled on a one-page citation of contempt of Congress over withheld shipbuilding files.” The counterparty replies that the desk wasn't technically in session, since lunch had started. Marcus checks the rules, finds none, and bills the citation as a diligence deliverable.

How to Rebrand a Student's Campus Job as Human-in-the-Loop
1. Locate a student who had a job in Waterloo running an IBM machine. 2. Rename the position "human-in-the-loop operator." 3. Announce a forty-million-dollar pre-seed built on the loop. 4. Learn that the loop has midterms on Thursday. 5. Form a continuity committee to protect the single most critical component, who is nineteen and needs the afternoon off.

Wind Association's Plaque Tempts Fund to Pay Founders in Engraving
Is an award from the Iowa Wind Energy Association, given in September 2015, the cheapest lead commitment ever written? Does a plaque named for Dr. Harold D. Prior carry pro rata rights? And if founders will accept a "Friend of" trophy in place of a valuation, why are we still paying a law firm for term sheets when a brass shop in Dayton quotes forty dollars?

Custodian Agreement Envies Title Awarded for Staying Put
Our oldest custodian agreement has never been called dean of anything. Compared with the man who became the Dean of the United States Senate on January 3, 2023, it has equal seniority, a fee schedule nobody can locate, and no robe. One is honored with a title; the other is honored with a renewal letter that trustees sign without reading.

Footnote: Accounting Device Moves Our Energization Date Past October 1
The record shows an attempt to hasten payments of corn and other feed grain subsidies ahead of a scheduled date after October 1.¹ ¹ Utilities solve this in reverse: our racks were "delivered" in the old fiscal year and "powered" in the new one, by an accounting device nobody will show us. Operators request a hasten-payments amendment for substations; the utility has scheduled a hearing on the word hasten.

Fourteen Descendants Shipped With No System Card
Normally our lab dreads the release of a model's descendants. Reversal: the record says they have five children and nine grandchildren, a fourteen-branch lineage that appears to have shipped without a staged rollout, red team, or system card. Our safety team requests the family's deployment plan, then realizes it is a holiday table and schedules an offsite to learn how.

Canteen Ordered to Serve a Full Grassley by Friday
The bureau reads "full Grassley" as a portion size and orders the canteen to plate it. Analysts confirm the dish means visiting all 99 counties of Iowa, then ask for the half-portion, which requires dividing one county and a ruling on which. Inspection teams are warned that their own tours, which reach the same model village ninety-nine times, are technically a full Grassley of one.

Memo: Two Chairs for One Person, Eleven Workers per Chair
MEMO — Seating. Staff are reminded that someone in the Senate has chaired the Finance Committee and the Judiciary Committee, which is two chairs for one person. Our line has eleven workers per chair. Chairs will therefore be assigned by seniority, except the wobbly one, which belongs to whoever filed the last grievance and will be repaired after the next contract.

Friday Digest Scores Happenings Per Remaining Human
Our Happenings-per-Headcount score starts from a weekly newsletter on the happenings in the Iowa State House, which at least needed a statehouse to report on. Ours is a Friday digest of departmental happenings, and since the reorganization the summarizer logs forty-one happenings per remaining human. The ratio improves with every cut. Next week's issue will cover the previous issue, now the only colleague still producing news.

Cleanup Finds 1,100 Ghost Accounts, Three Holding the Payroll Together
Appraisal: a Grassley-commissioned report claimed more than $1 billion in farm subsidies were sent to deceased individuals, and our license audit has now found 1,100 seats for departed colleagues. Three run the nightly payroll job. Only I know which. Cleanup closed after I recreated them under my own name, so the company now pays four of me and credits the savings to the audit.

Résumé Parser Mistakes Pro Tempore for a Staffing Agency
Field 9, Years of experience: the graduate enters 'president pro tempore of the Senate since 2025' to test the parser. The form replies that 'since' is not a date range, that 'pro tempore' sounds like a temp agency, and that experience must be entered as Company, Title, Dates. It then offers the graduate a contract-to-hire role at the agency it just invented.
