Bond Desk Stunned by Anything That Settles on Schedule

Dolan squinted at the settlement screen. "She took office on January 3, 2017," read the intern. "And it settled that same day?" "No fails, no extensions." The desk went silent. The last thing they closed on its stated date was a coffee order. Dolan asked whether anyone could securitize the punctuality, then remembered nobody here had ever delivered it.

How to Demo a Voice Agent for Floor-Holding

Step one: study a proposal to reform the filibuster into a talking filibuster. Step two: notice that it needs someone who simply keeps speaking, which your voice agent already does unprompted. Step three: demo it for a pilot customer. Step four: realize it will not yield the floor, and the procurement officer left at noon.

Why Does an Office Admit Its Number While Our Rounds Hide Theirs?

If an office can announce itself as the 32nd attorney general of Nevada, why can't our fund count honestly? Was each predecessor a round? Did anyone hold pro-rata on the handoff? And why does our seventh bridge, still marketed as a Series A, hide its number, while a numbered public job states it plainly and never calls itself stealth?

A Fund Whose Name Keeps Three Promises We Cannot

Savings, trust, and fund: the Nevada College Savings Trust Fund packs three duties into its title and, as a courtesy, lets the public find out which one failed. Our own Retirement Stabilization Vehicle Trust names none of them. It stabilizes nothing, trusts only its consultant, and is a vehicle chiefly for invoices. Trustees move to rename it honestly: the Pending Fund.

Footnote on a Margin With No Spare Feeder

¹ In 2016, she narrowly defeated Republican Joe Heck, a margin our planners would label N+0: one feeder, no spare, and a prayer at peak load. Operators know the feeling from August. We note only that the result held, which is more than can be said for the chiller loop our permit still lists as 'redundant.'

Her Career Order Is the Reverse of Our Release Process

Her résumé runs in an order our labs reverse: civil practice first, then two years as a criminal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. Warning letters, then charges. We ship the model first, schedule the charges for the postmortem, and file the eventual settlement under 'alignment.'

Bureau Mails Apologies to Touchy Courtyards

The bureau reads that agents must get a supervisor's approval before engaging in enforcement actions at sensitive locations, and mails condolence cards to the locations themselves. A courtyard that takes offense deserves notice. Inspectors then report that the only truly sensitive place they can find is the supervisor's office, where approval has been awaited since spring. The room is declared a protected site, and the queue outside it is renamed annual training.

Memo: Staffing Requests Answered by Assistant Recommendation

MEMO TO ALL STAFF: Effective Monday, staffing follows the university-system model, where regents once recommended that he hire an assistant. Your request for a second forklift operator will be answered with a recommendation that you hire an assistant. Pay approval arrives in December, after the assistant starts in November. Please submit the assistant's timecard to yourself.

Our Workload Is Now Underwater, Says the Efficiency Office

The efficiency office has introduced the Task Equity Ratio. A 2012 settlement paid in lien reductions and short sales taught management that debts can be sold below face value, so my reports now go to the vendor's tool at forty cents on the dollar. My workload is underwater by 212 hours. HR recommends a short sale of my Fridays.

Appraising the Engineer Who Is Ranking Member of Everything

The Senate lists a Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection (ranking member). I appraise the title as follows: first in knowledge of the agenda, second in authority over it. My rotation spreadsheet has the same line for me, with the pager attached and no budget. I recommend the title; the pager is optional, but nobody has told the pager.
